Hand to Bar the workshop: a mind body approach to hanging and pull-ups

Why do your pull-ups feel harder than they should?

You've built strength. You've practiced the progressions. You can hang for a decent amount of time.

But something still feels... forced. Stuck. Like you're working harder than you need to.

Here's what most people don't know:

Your hands aren't just gripping the bar—they're directing the entire movement. And each hand has a specialized role in how you push, rotate, hang, and pull.

When you understand what your hands are actually doing, pull-ups get lighter. Push-ups feel smoother. Inversions make more sense.

What if the missing piece wasn't strength—but awareness?

Most training focuses on building grip strength or engaging your lats. But your hands are doing something far more sophisticated than just holding on.

Your hands are sensory goldmines—17,000 touch receptors in each palm are constantly feeding your brain information about pressure, movement, and position. This sensory feedback determines how your entire arm coordinates the movement.

The problem? Most of us have never learned to pay attention to it.

In this 1-hour live workshop, you'll discover:

How to sense what your hands are doing when they're on the ground, in the air, and on an apparatus—turning vague effort into specific awareness

How to identify the role each hand plays in movement—because your left and right hand don't do the same job (and that's a good thing)

How to utilize each hand's role in different contexts like pushing, rotating, hanging, and pulling—so you can move with more ease and less strain

This workshop is for you if:

  • You've been working on pull-ups or chin-ups but progress feels slow or frustrating

  • You practice aerial silks, pole, rope, or other apparatus work and want to refine your technique

  • You're a climber, CrossFitter, or calisthenics practitioner looking for an edge

  • You want to understand the why behind your movement, not just collect more exercises

  • You're tired of generic cues like "engage your lats" that don't actually help you feel what's happening

What you'll walk away with:

  • A clear understanding of your own hand patterns and how they influence your movement

  • Practical tools to make hanging, pushing, and pulling feel easier immediately

  • The foundation for more skilled, coordinated movement—whether you're working toward your first pull-up or refining advanced skills

  • Access to the recording so you can revisit the concepts as you practice

Why this approach works:

Your nervous system coordinates movement based on sensory input. When you change what your hands are sensing and doing, you change how the entire movement feels.

This isn't about strength. It's about coordination. And coordination comes from awareness.

I've used these principles in my own aerial silks and rope practice, and I've watched students have "aha" moments when they realize their hands have been working against them instead of with them.
